The Nature Hut

To all those interested in nature, welcome to The Nature Hut.

I know I am new to the Forum but from what I can see there has been little activity recently which is a great shame.
Has anybody realised how much we owe to the plant world and how we cannot live without them. Their interplay with us, the rest of the animal kingdom and the planet as a whole is, certainly for me, one of the most amazing, absorbing and fascinating worlds (covers virtually every discipline) one could imagine.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

I agree totally with you. That is why we, who started this social network, have been busy for over two years now developing our Nature Inn site. Our site also covers 'virtually every discipline' This is the main reason that we have not had the time to put as much work into this site as we should of.

I know the feeling and have every sympathy with you. My own work began twenty years ago and somehow we have to engage everybody. Apart from the fact that the majority of the Western world is missing out on a quite fascinating and absorbing aspect of their own lives wherever and however they live, without their appreciation of this the speed of loss of many of our most familiar plant species in the immediate future will be greater. Last year I wrote an article entitled 'Plants Are of No Consequence' which describes this dramatically (it is on my own website.)
While I sympathise well with the time dilemma your site could be a source of considerable interest to a very wide audience.

Let us hope that we can help in some small way. I agree that people miss so much that is happening in nature. We have a good youth movement here and hopefully it will keep spreading. It amazes me on the internet when some stupid story has 10.000 hits and I've tried for over 2 years to tell people about our Nature Inn site and have 20 to 30 hits each day.

Hi Sue. This is a page that we are working on Leaves. We were going to describe the leaves etc. We do have the names of them. This is going to be part of showing the different parts of the plants. If you would like to add something we would give you the credit. We do have a few experts helping us.

Hi to you,
I would love to help you but I am not a botanist and therefore am not qualified to do so.

If you go to plantlives.com you will see that the contents, while extensive, deal with every aspect of a species life except the botanical one. The website contains thousands of plant biographies for individual species and genera written as one would a human biography. In the latter you might refer to somebody succumbing to a particular illness but you would not expect, when reading it, to find a medical treatise - similarly the plant biographies and botanical comment. Have a look and see what I mean. (I think some of the entries are likely to fascinate and surprise you.) I have a 'pet' botanist and a leading antiquarian bookseller (who is also a qualified horticulturist) who have kept me on the straight and narrow, as necessary, over the two to three decades that I have been writing (and they still do). Everything I write (or have said in talks) must be as accurate as possible as I would otherwise lose the trust and attention of the reader or listener (granted I am human and can still make mistakes - but I hope that they are rare).
I am flattered to have been asked but must decline.

Sue

I agree that the plant, animal and planet as a whole is very amazing, fascinating and mind boggleing. I like to give the Creator credit for it all as well.

Yes, it was certainly very exciting. I returned to the same area this summer - but not sign of the fox, I'm afraid.
