Hello to all you other Nature Nuts at the Nature Hut!
Found this site via a gardening link. I've just joined after looking at a few of the excellent pictures and reading just a bit here and there.
Aside from the fact that this site is right down my alley as an avid nature watcher, etc., I am hoping that one or two people who are in B.C. or have some knowledge of the Gulf Islands, can suggest a place or two or more for nature watching for two enthusiastic people headed to the Victoria area in the last half of July 09.
We are senior in age but relatively novice birders and intermediate? photographers with a great respect and appreciation of nature. We intend to spend a few days taking pictures in the gulf islands and will also need somewhere nice to tent for a few days while there, if anyone can offer suggestions on either of these topics. There doesn't seem to be much non-commercial information available via my normally productive googling efforts. Any knowledgeable suggestions would be much appreciated.
When we get back, I promise to add to this site in a more proactive way.
P.S. Picture included taken just recently, is in my backyard on Sweet William. This is a Two-tailed Swallowtail, one of four Swallowtails occurring in the Okanagan area, my recent research tells me. Swallowtails are steady visitors to my backyard each summer and are especially fond of the Sweet William there. They spend far more time on it than anything else, giving me good opportunities to get some pictures.
Ferne,
Kamloops, B.C.
