Hello to all you other Nature Nuts at the Nature Hut!
Found this site via a gardening link. I've just joined after looking at a few of the excellent pictures and reading just a bit here and there.
Aside from the fact that this site is right down...
I should of showed you this earlier, although I took most of the birds photos during the winter months. Gives you an idea what the lagoon is like however. Just give a click to The Lagoon
Hi. I'm in Victoria and started this site. Our main web site is and we cover all aspects in nature. Please have a browse. It keeps me rather busy but as this site gets busy I plan to be around a little more. As for your request about nature spots in Victoria, Esquimalt Lagoon is one of the best although most of the birds leave when winter ends but you will some a few.
Hi There Fern
Got your request about places to bird and places to tent.
We live on Saltspring Island and this time of the year it is peak season for visitors. However if you're looking to tent I would assume that Ruckle Park would be best. The setting is very beautiful......on the ocean with views of Pender Island, Saturna and the Orca's.
It can be quite crowded this time of the year and is a long way from the shops and town.......about ten minutes but for here that's a long way.
I'll enquire about how to go about getting a campsite etc tomorrow so get back to me and tell me if you're interested.
As for birding, we have all sorts of places.........fields/grasslands, ocean sides, lakes and mountain spots. If you want I can get hold of our local ornithological society and you can chat with them.
If you guys are game you can take a zodiac out to check out the Orcas in the channels....this is a totally fabulous experience.

Ruckle park is also mentioned here.
As for the other Islands I don't know much since each Island is like another world. One way or the other you'll love the Gulf Islands.
so get back to me and we can work on something if you're interested.

Thank you for directing me to The Dereila Nature Inn. Lovely site. Beautiful photos. I have been to many of those parks on the special places page. I feel reminiscent to see photos of familiar sights.
It was a little too much about the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone. It was interesting, but I only watched the first 3 episodes. Have a look at the link to Special Places that we have photographed and added to our main site, The Dereila Nature Inn. I...
